September 24, 2025(MIAMI COUNTY, OH–) The West Milton VFW Post 8211 Auxiliary recently donated $7,500 to Miami County Special Olympics at a bowling practice. The VFW hosted its 35th annual fundraiser in March, which resulted in this donation.
Since 1988, funds raised by the West Milton VFW have been used to provide many items such as uniforms and equipment for athletes participating in Miami County Special Olympics sports. VFW quartermaster Bill Wolfe and Auxiliary secretary Charlene Wolfe dropped by a recent bowling practice to present their donation to this season’s Special Olympics bowling athletes, their coaches, and Miami County Board of Developmental Disabilities’ Community Connections Manager Patrick Kilbane, who serves as the local coordinator for Miami County Special Olympics.
“We are incredibly grateful for the VFW’s ongoing support and generosity,” Kilbane said. “Their support creates so many meaningful opportunities for the athletes we serve.”
Miami County Special Olympics is operated by the Miami County Board of Developmental Disabilities as an affiliate of Special Olympics Ohio and the internationally recognized Special Olympics organization. Miami County Special Olympics offers a wide variety of year-round individual and team sports for anyone with an intellectual disability, ages 8 and older. Sports included in Miami County are basketball, bowling, cheerleading, golf, powerlifting, softball, swimming, and volleyball.
Each program promotes athletes’ emotional, physical, and social health and instills a strong work ethic and sense of teamwork. Through successful experiences, athletes build confidence and a positive self-image which carries over into the classroom, jobs, and community.
