MCBDD Reads to Local Children, Donates Books
March 20, 2025(MIAMI COUNTY, OH–) The Miami County Board of Developmental Disabilities (MCBDD) recently installed a universal changing table in the organization’s front lobby restroom at 1625 Troy Sidney Road in Troy.
A universal changing table is an adult-sized changing table designed to accommodate the personal care needs of individuals regardless of height, weight, or level of mobility. It provides caretakers a safe and convenient place to assist those who may be unable to care for themselves — including individuals with disabilities, children, babies, aging adults, and people who use a catheter.
“We are proud to offer this resource to our community,” said MCBDD Superintendent Brian Green. “Whether a child, an adult with a developmental disability, a senior citizen, or a disabled veteran, we want everyone to know they have access to this resource and can enjoy being out in Miami County.”
The universal changing table was purchased with funds from the American Rescue Plan Act to expand accessibility to community-based resources. Members of the public may access the restroom and changing table during MCBDD’s normal business hours: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Universal changing tables are becoming more common across Ohio and other states. The Ohio Department of Transportation announced in May 2023 that it would renovate 29 rest stops across the state, adding universal adult changing stations at each. The first two stops opened earlier this year in Jeffersonville. Two will open in Miami County by the end of 2025, and two more in Auglaize County by the end of 2026. Many public facilities and businesses are also beginning to offer adult changing tables in public restrooms.
